Family Therapy

Relationships within a family can be deeply meaningful, but they can also become strained by conflict, life transitions, misunderstandings, or difficult experiences. Family therapy provides a supportive space to strengthen communication, rebuild trust, and work through challenges together.

Rather than focusing on one individual as the “problem,” family therapy explores the patterns of interaction that influence the family as a whole. Together, we’ll work toward healthier ways of understanding one another, resolving conflict, and creating lasting change.

What Is Family Therapy?

Family therapy focuses on the relationships between family members rather than placing blame on one individual.

Together, we’ll explore the patterns that keep your family feeling stuck and develop healthier ways of communicating, understanding one another, and responding to challenges.

Whether your family is experiencing ongoing conflict or simply wants to reconnect, therapy can help create meaningful and lasting change.

Signs Your Family May Benefit from Therapy

Family therapy may be helpful if:

  • Conversations frequently turn into arguments.
  • Family members avoid difficult conversations.
  • Communication feels strained or disconnected.
  • Parent–child conflict has become ongoing.
  • A major life transition has affected family relationships.
  • A family member’s mental health is impacting the family as a whole.
  • Boundaries feel unclear or difficult to maintain.
  • Family members want to reconnect but aren’t sure how.

  • Parent–teen conflict
  • Parent–adult child relationships
  • Family communication difficulties
  • Constant arguments or tension
  • Life transitions
  • Navigating family conflict following separation or divorce
  • Boundary setting
  • Emotional disconnection

  • Supporting a family member experiencing anxiety, depression, or trauma

My Approach

My approach to family therapy is collaborative, compassionate, and grounded in evidence-based practice.

Drawing from Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), attachment theory, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), and trauma-informed care, we’ll work to understand the emotions and interaction patterns that influence your relationships, not simply the behaviours themselves.

The goal isn’t to decide who is “right.”

It’s to help family members understand one another more deeply, strengthen emotional connections, and build healthier ways of relating to one another.

What to Expect in Family Therapy

Every family is unique, so therapy looks different depending on your goals and the challenges you’re facing.

During our first session, we’ll explore what brings your family to therapy, hear each person’s perspective, and begin identifying the patterns that may be contributing to conflict or disconnection.

Family therapy isn’t about taking sides or assigning blame. It’s about creating a space where everyone feels heard, improving communication, and helping your family move toward healthier, more supportive relationships.

Who Can Attend?

Family therapy may include:

  • Parents and adolescents
  • Parents and adult children
  • Siblings
  • Multiple family members

Each family’s situation is unique, and together we’ll determine who would be most helpful to include in the therapeutic process.
